About

Bruce Jordan is a figurative painter based in Sweden. Working in the tradition of the Old Masters, he paints contemporary Swedish life :its rituals, institutions and everyday spaces ; with particular attention to identity and belonging.

His current series, Hon är här, portrays Black Swedish women and girls within the traditions and routines of everyday Swedish life, from Midsommar and Lucia to the library and the laundry room.

Jordan trained first in contemporary jewellery, earning a BA in Visual Arts from Stellenbosch University and an MA from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, and exhibiting internationally, including at Schmuck in Munich. He later trained as an upper-secondary art teacher at Umeå University and has worked in art education in Sweden for more than a decade.
